Martina McCarthy's converted first half try was enough for Ireland to gain revenge on Spain, who had served up some late heartbreak for Jon Skurr's side in yesterday's Pool A opener. It was a tough, attritional weekend for the girls in green with a number of injuries picked up on day one, including a broken nose for Saracens' Megan Williams. Williams showed great commitment to the cause by wearing a protective mask against the Netherlands and Spain today, and the Irish resilience eventually paid off as they secured an 11th place finish and two series points. That wraps up Ireland's debut season as a core team on the IRB Women's Sevens World Series circuit, the highlight being their Bowl success in Guangzhou last month. They finished 12th in Atlanta and were 11th in Dubai, S Paulo and Amsterdam. The play off victory over Spain will give the Irish encouragement for the upcoming European Sevens competition as they attempt to qualify again for the World Series. Skurr explained: "It's been a tough first season on the World Series circuit and credit has to go to the players, especially those that been involved since the start. "They have seen the programme evolve and they've continued to give everything in order to represent Ireland. "The standard of rugby is improving tournament by tournament. Nearly all the teams are full time and it's a challenge for our players to keep up, let alone close the gap. "The players are working so hard to compete but more importantly to close the gap. The attitude and commitment of the talent identification programme players has been refreshing and they have added real value to our squad. "Many of the squad have jobs, but are still training 15 20 hours a week. I have total admiration for what they have given up and contributed in order to pull on the green jersey. "The next month is an important period for us where we finish the World Series, then compete in the European Sevens Series where we have the opportunity to re qualify for the World Series qualification event." IRB WOMEN'S SEVENS WORLD SERIES FIFTH LEG: AMSTERDAM SEVENS: BOWL SEMI FINAL: Saturday, May 17 NETHERLANDS 24 IRELAND 0, NRCA Stadium Scorers: Netherlands: Tries: Kelly van Harskamp 2, Annemarije van Rossum, Linda Franssen; Cons: Lorraine Laros 2 Ireland: Ireland were stung by early tries in both halves as tournament hosts the Netherlands proved too strong in front of a partizan crowd. Key player Kelly van Harskamp burst through for a try in the opening minute, showing good pace to score despite the best efforts of the chasing Martina McCarthy. Lorraine Laros converted for a 7 0 lead. Squad newcomer Hannah Tyrrell gave a glimpse of her ability on the ball when she broke over halfway, however Claire Keohane was penalised at a ruck just moments later for not releasing. Jon Skurr's side had some decent territory as Laura Lee Walsh almost got through a gap on the right, but it was the hosts who looked the more threatening with ball in hand. The Dutch countered from inside their own half with van Harskamp sprinting into space on the right and stepping inside Katie Fitzhenry to grab her second converted try of the game. Fitzhenry almost had an opportunity to respond as she darted up the right touchline and over halfway, but the orange shirts got back to retrieve the situation and did so again when Walsh found space on the blindside. Trailing 14 0 at the break, Ireland leaked a third try soon after the restart as a dummy run from van Harskamp sucked in Tyrrell and Annemarije van Rossum had the gas to get away from McCarthy out wide. A couple of missed tackles cost Ireland as replacement Linda Franssen then ran in her side's final try as their lead was extended to 24 points. The girls in green kept plugging away with captain Shannon Houston, as ever, leading by example and Nikki Caughey putting boot to ball in an attempt to spark something out wide. Fellow replacement Megan Williams entered the fray wearing her protective mask and was lively in defence during her time on the pitch, making a crucial tackle on van Harskamp as she pressed for a hat trick score. VietNamNet Bridge Bui Minh Thuy of ADC Vinh Long Television won the 71km first stage of the Binh Duong Television International Cycling Tour yesterday, March 9. Thuy finished the Ha City to Hue leg in 1 hour 27 minutes and 55 seconds, just ahead of Do Tuan Anh of Domesco Thap and Mai Nguyen Hung of Sai Gon Plant Protection team. Komsan Kambenchee of the Netherlands finished fourth. ADC Vinh Long, with the help of Dutch cyclist Spijkerboer Wim, recorded the best team time of 4:24:09. Domesco Thap and Sai Gon Plant Protection finished second and third, respectively. It was just the second time the Viet Nam Cycling Federation has permitted teams to invite non Vietnamese athletes. In the 1993 94 cycling season, HCM City based Thanh Binh Hotel employed the services of an English cyclist. The nine stage tour, which carries prize money of VND220 million (US$11,000), takes in Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Duong provinces. There are 75 cyclists competing for the title, and 12 local and three foreign teams Mongolia, the Netherlands and the Philippines. Last year, Hall Brad of the Netherlands' Ysselstreek team won the yellow jersey for the best overall time. The second 110km stage from Hue to Da Nang today takes in the Phuoc Tuong, Phu Gia and Hai Van passes. World under 23 Mountain Bike champion, Burry Stander, notched up his first major victory in a cycling road race, when he outsprinted David George and Kevin Evans at the end of the second stage of the Pick n Pay Cape Argus Giro del Capo based in Durbanville in the Western Cape on Wednesday. His time for the 143km stage, held in cool overcast conditions, was three hours 21 minutes 53 seconds. Stander, who hails from Port Shepstone on the KZN South Coast, was part of the 21 man group of riders than managed to make a clean get away from the bunch of 200 that started the three lap stage, the successful move coming immediately after the sprint to the first Hot Spot in the middle of Durbanville at the end of the first lap. The breakaway steadily opened the gap between themselves and the chasing group to over three minutes as they negotiated the two remaining laps of the 48km circuit which incorporated the three stiff climbs up the steep slopes of the Vissershok. The stage ended in the traditional sprint to the finish on a downhill gradient with Stander's Specialized teammate, Christoph Sauser, jumping into the lead followed by Evans and George but it was Stander who got to the line first with his trademark explosive finish. "It's my first major road win," said a visibly elated Stander. "But it was the stage my team and I most wanted to win. "Sausi and I were both in the mix near the end and when he jumped off the front Kevin and the others took the bait and I got on to Kevin's wheel with 200m to go and then managed to pass him and David just before the line. I guess I must have a stronger kick than he has!" Stander took not only the stage two honours but also became the overall race leader and will wear the traditional pink jersey for Thursday's 171km third stage at Paarl. Evans, the SA 2010 road time trial champion and winner of last weekend's Sani2C MTB Classic, takes over the Powerade King of the Mountain jersey and stage one winner, Austrian Rene Haselbacher, will wear the Pickfords Points jersey. 10 March 2010 (15:56) Stage 2 Pick n Pay Cape Argus Giro del Capo Durbanville South Africa. We use it on our 16, 8, and 4 year olds. Our youngest, then 3, was fighting getting dressed each morning. I told him "I dress kids that act nicely." (enforceable statements is one of the best basics in Love Logic). He still wouldn't let me dress him, so I said No problem. I put his clothes and shoes in a bag and put him in the car. He then decided he wanted to get dressed. He had to wait until we got to preschool and got dressed in the bathroom there. I've only had to mention one other time that I only dress kids that act nicely. My 8 year old used to just dawdle in the mornings. We live about 1/2 mile from school, so it's not a long walk. One morning, she was taking her time. I set her shoes, backpack, and jacket on the front porch. I told her "Out the door, I need to lock it. Enjoy your walk to school." Then I left. I only had to do it once. The biggest key is Don't Nag. Tell them once "We're leaving in 5 minutes." Then the consequence can be age appropriate. If it's too far to walk, an 8 year old can put her shoes on at school on the sidewalk. Every morning was so stressful! I created a chart on my computer. I put a picture for every task that she needed to complete in the morning. I had pictures of clothing for getting dressed, a pic of food, toothbrush, shoes, etc. I laminated the chart and put it on the fridge. I printed out little smiley faces and put velcro strips on the smiley's and the chart. With every task she completes in the morning, she gets to put a smiley next to the corresponding picture. If she gets all her smiley's, she gets marbles in her marble jar. We started with two jars of marbles one full, one empty. As she earns her marble from getting smiley's, the empty jar fills up. The idea is to give children choices and explain what you are going to do instead of telling the children what to do. For example telling the children "The car is leaving in 15 minutes, you can leave with your clothes on your body or with your clothes in a bag. You decide." The important thing is to follow through and plan ahead. You know this is an ongoing issue with your children. Call the preschool ahead of time and tell them that your children may come to school with their pajamas still on. Currently we have a penny game. Whenever they do something cooperatively the first time we ask (like "Let's get on our coats now" or "Come to the sink to brush your teeth") they get a penny in their cups. When we ask them twice they don't get anything, but they know they lost an opportunity. (We say "Oops, I had to tell you twice!) When we have to tell them a 3rd time, they lose a penny. (We are trying to do this without threats just by letting them learn from consequences. And we try to keep it upbeat and fun.) It has really helped them cooperate and has cut down on yelling/threatening and made the atmosphere here more positive! When they get 25 pennies we'll match it and do it again until they have at least a dollar to buy something at the store. This is working well for my 4 year old, but I have to adjust it for my 2 year old. (I'm guessing your 3 year old could get these "games" and your 2 year old might follow along with a little more coaxing.) In the past we've made up sticker games too. (Stickers on calendars) If I implement different games every once in awhile, then overall they seem better at doing what we ask and cooperating. We've also rotated different car toys as someone else suggested. Hope something helps! It's a hard age for that, that's for sure! The best advice I ever got was using the 5 3 1 Go idea. You give them a 5 minute, 3 minute and 1 minute warning, and then they are ready to do what you want get coats on, leave the park. It can take a bit to train them this way. The first time you might have to just pick them up and go, but they get it very quickly. I have 5 year old autistic twins and an 8 year old daughter and this still works for her, too. No one can just "turn on a dime", not even adults do that well. Warnings about what is coming up work very well. I agree with the psychologist about not threatening to leave. My family did that to me and it still scares me to this day, and I'm 37. Keep it simple: I place on the living room table for my 3 year old a pile of her clothes (the ones i intend for her to wear). I tell her she has 'this much time to get dressed' (showing her the space of air between my thumb and forefinger, about 4 inches). I also remind her that if she is not ready when the time runs out, i will have to get her dressed and ready to go myself. After about three minutes, if she has not started, I remind her that she now has 'this much time' (showing her a smaller bit of air between my finger and thumb). She resisted the first week, and many days i had to hold her still to get her pants and shirt on, with her feet kicking me as i tried to get socks and boots on, but eventually i could see that she was doing it herself, albeit in her own time frame too. I have learned to see things with more paitience, through her eyes in terms of time. Now I plan for plenty of time before I have to go and the routine is a no tears event. And she feels great because she did it all by herself!I find what works best with my daughter (who is currently 3.5 years but I discovered this when she had just turned 3) is to talk about how incredibly fun and awesome the place that we are going to is going to be. She absolutely loves daycare so that's an easy sell. It improves the skin tone of the body and brings back its luster. Microdermabrasion also helps in getting rid of superficial scars from acne. For some, a total of six peelings are needed to achieve the best results. Others can get away with less depending on the condition of the skin. Often the procedure is done every one to two weeks. It makes use of aluminum crystals that create a micro dermabrasion effect that helps peel the skin. Although the skin is the most common area treated by the procedure, it is also done on the neck, chest, arms, hands or any area that are damaged by the sun. It is also used for skins with irregular pigmentation such as sun spots and melasma; those with irregular and rough skin; and even those with some wrinkles and stretch marks. Effects of the procedure is said to better than those seen in glycolic acid peels. Another advantage is the longer healing and recovery time compared to other procedures. There is also a shorter treatment time as well very minimal discomfort. It is also said to be very safe for all skin types as well as all races. Although it is less expensive, it can be expensive on the long run as it requires multiple treatments. So, before having yourself treated, make sure that you have already determined the total cost.
